2006 Michigan Wolverines College Football Preview

Friday, March 31st, 2006

The biggest reason the Michigan Wolverines will be back in the hunt for a Big 10 title in 2006 is a healthy Mike Hart. Hart rushed for 1,455 yards as a true freshman to take the Big 10 by storm, but last season he was hampered by injuries and missed 4 games entirely. O yeah, and the Wolverines have Chad Henne who is one of the best passers in the Big 10 along with Iowa’s Drew Tate. However, with the loss of top receiver Jason Avant, Steve Breaston, who went into hiding last season, will have to step up and be the Wolverines big play guy. It will ultimately be up to new offensive coordinator Mike DeBord to come off with an offensive game plan which best features his players talents. Michigan will be the most successful this season when they are running the football. If DeBord gets too pass-happy the Wolverines will run into some problems.

Michigan’s defense, which returns 8 starters, could give the Wolverines a leg up on the Buckeyes and other top challengers in the Big 10 this season as the Hawkeyes and Buckeyes both will count on new guys to fill defensive gaps, especially the Buckeyes who return just 2 defensive starters. Defensive end Lamarr Woodley is the best in the Big 10 at causing havoc in their opponents’ backfields. He led the Wolverines last season with 14 tackles for loss and 7 quarterback sacks. The Wolverines also boast the best defensive back in the league in cornerback Leon Hall who came up with 4 interceptions a season ago. He is one of 3 returning D-Backs which make up the most solid secondary in the Big 10 and should force teams such as the Iowa Hawkeyes to run the football.

Michigan will get their first major test of the season in week 3 when they go to South Bend to take on the Fighting Irish. We’ll find out just how good their secondary really is against Heisman-favorite Brady Quinn and Charlie Weiss’ explosive offense. Michigan State and Iowa could both be tough games, but the Wolverines will have the luxury of playing their in-state rival and the Hawkeyes in Ann Arbor. They do have to go to Columbus to conclude the season in the Horseshoe. The Big 10 Championship will come down to this meeting. Although Ohio State is my favorite to take the Big 10 right now, with just a 7-5 record last season and a poor 5-3 conference showing by Michigan standards, the Wolverines have plenty to prove.

Odds to win National Title: 20/1

Odds to win Big 10 Championship: 2/1

‘Scooch’ Off to AC

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

A major piece in the jigsaw puzzle involving the Stardust Hotel and Casino’s transformation into a $4 million megaresort fell into place Monday when the Las Vegas Review-Journal broke the story that Race and Sports Director Bob Scucci soon would be joining former boss Joe Lupo at the Borgata Hotel Casino in Atlantic City.

Scucci, one of the Nevada’s most influential bookmakers, confirmed he would depart June 1 to become the Borgata’s director of relationship marketing.

“I’m excited about the possibilty,” Scucci told the R-J. “It’s a huge promotion for me. Opportunities like this one come only once in your career.”

Scucci assumed the Stardust reins in 2002.

The Stardust long has been the reputed “home of the Las Vegas line,” though offshore books have stolen some of its thunder in recent years.

The R-J quoted Roobert Walker, who heads betting operations for MGM Mirage and previously worked at the Stardust, as saying “the landscape will change dramatically” without Scucci at the Stardust helm.

The merger of Boyd Gaming and Coast Casinos has led to speculation about how the future Echelon Place might handle sports wagering operations.

Scucci, a New Jersey native and USC graduate, has been with Boyd Gaming 15 years.

He noted he expects the popular Stardust Invitational football handicapping contest and Stardust Line radio show to continue. No indication was given who will step into Scucci’s shoes for the last seven months of 2006.

“Scooch”, as he’s known in sports gaming circles, is a rabid sports buff who looks forward to becoming a plain old fan again.

“It’s sometimes tough to enjoy a great game when you’ve got hundreds of thousands of dollars riding on it,” he told the R-J.

Poker Winnings - How to Play for Millions in Profits Quickly

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

If you are a good poker player, you already have the skills to play a different game - one that offers far bigger rewards for the skills you have.

So, what is the game? - Trading financial markets such as currencies, which is an area that many poker players excel in - many of the world’s greatest traders are poker players too!

My first job was in a financial brokerage, and I watched in amazement as a guy put down $20,000 - and traded it to $685,000 in just 4 months!

When talking to him, he revealed his passion for poker - and that he decided to trade, as he felt it would be easier, and the rewards were bigger - and for him, this came to fruition!

In fact, many of the worlds top traders are great poker or blackjack players - and they switched games, to play for rewards that can total millions quickly - which led them to financial freedom.

Moving from Poker to Trading

Trading is actually easy to learn than poker, and within about 14 days, you can develop a method that puts the odds in your favor - so you can trade for big profits.

Most traders don’t lose because they have a bad method - they normally lose because they cant trade without emotion, and with discipline. they have no idea of money management.

but poker players already have these skills.

All you need is a Method to apply that puts the Odds in your Favor

You can learn everything about trading in around 14 days - you will then have all the knowledge you need to go and trade for huge profits.

Trading represents the final frontier of the free market economy - and you have the opportunity for massive gains.

The Power of Leverage

When you trade, you can leverage your money. For example, put down $5,000 dollars with a currency broker, and they will give you leverage of 100:1 so you can trade $500,000!

Of course, this leverage is double-edged sword, but if used correctly, you can make massive profits that far exceed what you can make playing poker.

So why do Poker Players make such Great Financial Traders?

To succeed when playing poker, you need a method - and to apply it with discipline - playing when the conditions are right, to gain the big profits - and this is exactly the same in trading.

Here are some similarities between the two games:

1. Putting the Odds in Your Favor

In poker you only play when you think you have the odds in your favor and this is a skill all the great traders have.

They have patience and only trade when the conditions are right, and the profit potential is high.

2. Money Management

Just as you manage your bankroll in poker, you also do so in trading - varying bet size to maximize your profits, and having the discipline to cut your losses quickly.

3. Discipline

Just as most card players lack discipline, so do traders.

You need discipline to execute your method through losing periods - and have the confidence that you will win over the longer term.

If you’ve ever thought you Couldn’t Trade - then think Again!

The rewards for successful trading are far greater than in poker - and the effort required, once youve learned a method, is far less - in just an hour a day, you could be making huge profits.

Play in a bigger stakes game today - financial trading in markets such as currencies requires the same skills you already use when playing poker.

You have an opportunity to play for higher rewards using the skills you already have - and anyone can learn a method - its discipline, and money management that makes a successful financial trader - and you already have these skills.

On Line Casino Client Download - Positive?

Server client technology

This technology is most commonly used in the last decade since the internet revolution. The advantage of server client’s technology is the distribution of processes to run on the server side or on the client side. For example: graphic images that build the client application backgrounds and button images are all saved on the client side and are operated independently on each client machine so that all functionality happens on the client side. User login authentication for example, is a process that takes place on the server side and the client is just a tool that sends username and password data and receives login approved or failed messages from the server, after the server has verified player details. This is how the internal software systems architecture can build a multi-user system, maximizing the efficiency and decreasing lag time.

Client software

Client software is an application that is installed and run locally on your machine. We all think twice before we click download on any site, however this is the most commonly used design for almost every on line casino. This design was proven to be the fastest, most efficient and most secure way to give the user the best casino experience while playing on line.

Flash software

Flash technology is an internet design tool that enables high quality designs and animations on internet pages. A few on line casinos are using this technology in a non client side on line environment. This method is comparatively modern but most casinos prefer not to use it as it is heavy in relation to user application reaction time and consumes substantial system resources especially on the server side when many users are logged in. The advantage of using flash design is that it is less aggressive compared to client installation and it can support much more complicated designs and animations. Flash games run on browsers such as Internet Explorer or Fire Fox. All of the games functionality is reliant on the server side. The number of server requests and the amount of data transferred between the browser (clients) and the server is much higher and the server load increases dramatically with the number of clients that use it at the same time.

At the end of the day, it’s all matter of personal preference, some people play casino games from a system other than their own personal computer so they will naturally prefer not to install any clients, like playing from a work or a shared system. Some prefer the client option, this being mostly the people who use casino often as a form of entertainment and they do it from their own personal computer the majority or all of the time.

There is a good reason why the vast majority of on line casinos do not chose to upgrade their systems to flash. One of the most important things to take into consideration is the user experience. Casinos put extra effort into duplicating to the maximum extent the off line casino experience. It is a challenge, but most casinos use advanced graphic and sound effects to maximize user experience and modern software architecture to increase the systems speed.

Most professional gamblers have experienced both options and it is a fact that the vast majority play with the client installation. If you are still in the early stages of this process, make sure that the casino from which you decide to download is reliable and well known. All big on line casinos work very hard to obtain a reliable reputation and they all know that one unhappy user is more than enough to ruin it. Read and compare casinos terms of use and other player’s opinions.

Indiana Casinos

Monday, March 27th, 2006

Indiana casinos are located in the “Hoosier state,” a Midwest state at the “crossroads of America.” Indiana, with a population of over 6,000,000 and an area of 35,867 square feet, is known for agriculture, manufacturing, and mining of decorative limestone. The capital of Indiana is Indianapolis, the “amateur sports capital of the world,” with a population approaching 2,000,000. The largest single-day sporting event in the world, the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race, is held in Indianapolis.

Gambling in Indiana casinos is very popular and there are a number of riverboat casinos in the state, where the minimum age for gambling is 21. Some of the casinos are open from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 Midnight, seven days a week, and others stay open for 24 hours. Indiana casinos offer a variety of table games, such as blackjack, roulette, craps, and several types of poker, including Pai Gow, Draw, Stud, Let It Ride, and 3 Card, as well as frequent poker tournaments.

The majority of the larger Indiana casinos are open for 24 hours, such as Caesars Indiana, in Elizabeth, with 93,000 square feet of gaming area, 2,349 slots, 120 table games, including poker, blackjack, craps, roulette, and baccarat, 10 restaurants, and a hotel. Another large Indiana casino, the Argosy Casino and Hotel, in Lawrenceburg, is open 24 hours and has 74,300 square feet, 2,384 slots, 87 table games, and five restaurants. In addition, the Resorts East Chicago Hotel and Casino has 53,000 square feet, 1,966 slots, and 50 table games.

There are several smaller Indiana casinos, as well, including the Majestic Star in Gary, also open 24 hours, with 43,000 square feet, 1,600 slots, and 47 table games, and the Horseshoe Casino, in Hammond, with 42,573 square feet, 2,000 slots, 49 table games, several bars, and restaurants. Another popular Indiana casino is the Grand Victoria Casino and Resort, in Rising Sun, open Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m., and Friday through Sunday, open for 24 hours. This 40,000 square foot casino has 1,497 slots, 36 table games, and four restaurants.

Indiana casinos bring an enormous amount of revenue to the state and the enthusiasm for gambling in Indiana is widespread. It is estimated that Indiana casinos in Northwest Indiana rank third in the gambling market of the United States. The worldwide appeal of poker tournaments and the excitement of gambling in Indiana casinos continue to attract more travelers, boosting the economy at a remarkable rate.

Tilt and Other Poker Terms

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

There are some poker terms often used by pundits, in articles and by players at the table which you may find helpful to learn. Here they are, tilt and all!

BIG BLIND The largest of the two required (called “forced̶ ;) bets, twice the size of the posted “small” blind.

BOARD Area where five “community” cards are placed for all players to use to make a hand.

BULLY An aggressive tactic used by the strongest player with the most chips to force another player’s hand.

BUTTON The round “button” or disc that shows which player plays last.

BUY-IN The amount of money you have to “put up” in order to play in a tournament.

EARLY POSITION First two or three seats located to the left of the big blind.

FIRST POSITION First player on the left of the big blind.

FLOP The first three cards dealt to the community, dealt face up.

LATE POSITION One or two seats to the right of the button.

MIDDLE POSITION Players 4th-7th player positions after the big blind.

(THE) NUTS The best possible hand showing with what is on the board.

RAISE Betting larger than the previous bet.

RERAISE Making another bet after the pot has already been raised.

RAKE What the House Charges to operate the game.

REBUY In tournaments, if it is a re-buy event, you can re-buy chips when you run out.

RIVER The final community card dealt.

SHOWDOWN Cards are turned over on the river by the players left in the game.

TURN the fourth community card dealt.

And the one everyone needs to know - TILT. After a few bad hands some people play too aggressively or too “loose” and usually end up losing their chips.

Use these terms to improve your poker game and understand what the other players are talking about, but try to stay calm and avoid the dreaded tilt!

League Two Betting Review - 2 April 2006

Saturday, March 25th, 2006

Grimsby are within three points of leaders Carlisle after easing to victory over play-off outsiders Wrexham. The Mariners, hammered 5-0 at Lincoln last week, took the lead through Gary Jones after 25 minutes and Michael Reddy ensured an 8/11 home victory two minutes from time.

Northampton kept their automatic promotion campaign on course with a 1-0 victory at Peterborough United. Former Posh striker Scott McGleish netted the crucial goal, his twentieth of the season, after 21 minutes to seal a 17/10 away win.

Promotion-chasing Leyton Orient were denied all three points on their visit to Notts County. Wayne Corden gave the O’s the lead three minutes into the second half but Mike Edwards levelled on 74 to set-up a draw at odds of 9/4.

Wycombe’s bid for automatic promotion suffered a major blow as they slumped to a third straight defeat. Vistors Bristol Rovers, 10/3 outsiders on the day, found themselves 3-0 ahead at the Causeway Stadium through a Junior Agogo brace and Richard Walker penalty before Jermaine Easter scored a consolation.

Darlington kept their slim play-off hopes alive by defeating fellow optimists Lincoln 4-2 at the Williamson Motors Stadium. Guy Bates headed the Quakers into the lead three minutes after the break but Marvin Robinson levelled on 53. Matt Clarke put Darlington back in front four minutes later before two goals from on-loan Jemal Johnson on 61 and 71 secured a 6/4 home win. Jamie Forrester netted a consolation on 76.

In the battle at the bottom, Rushden & Diamonds swapped places with Torquay as they won 1-0 at Nene Park. Drewe Broughton struck the winner for the 5/4 Diamonds two minutes before the break to give their survival hopes a boost.

Chester eased their relegation worries with a much-needed win at the Deva Stadium against Macclesfield. The in-form Derek Asamoah netted his first of the afternoon for the 7/5 Blues five minutes after the break but the Silkmen levelled through Kevin Townson on 75. With the match heading for a draw Asamoah struck a late winner.

Bury extended their unbeaten run to three games as they got the better of fellow strugglers Stockport at Edgeley Park. Jon Daly netted the decisive goal for the 12/5 Shakers after 32 minutes.

Barnet slid further into relegation trouble after losing 2-1 at Boston. Lawrie Dudfield broke the deadlock after 16 minutes for the 9/10 Pilgrims while Mark Greaves doubled the advantage on 35. Lee Roache pulled one back for the Bees on 73 but Boston held firm.

Online Casino Bonus Review 2006-9-12

Action Online Casino Bonuses

Action Online Casino have over 70 games on offer, including blackjack although I was unable to ascertain which rules they played by. It is a software download casino which looks very pretty and has an interesting novelty of live dealer games where the game is controlled by a real dealer who is visible in a webcam style window.

Welcome Bonus

This online casino offers quite a few different bonuses. As most online casinos do they offer a first deposit bonus of 100%, but theirs is only up to a maximum of Ł30 / €30 / $50. However they also offer a second deposit bonus to encourage you to come back for a second visit. This bonus is only 50% this time but is also up to Ł30 / €30 / $50.

Action Online Casino require the standard 25 times deposit and bonus to be wagered before any money can be withdrawn and any losses are applied to the players deposit first. This requirement increases to 35 time if players living outside the UK wish to withdraw GBP.

Preferred Payment Bonus

Action Online Casino would prefer you to use NETeller or Wire Transfer to make your deposits, so to encourage you they are offering a 10% bonus if you use those methods. The bonus is up to Ł130 / €130 / $250 and the usual 25 times wagering requirement applies, increasing to 35 times for players using GBP outside the UK. The preferred payment bonuses are not given with the first and second deposit bonuses.

Refer A Friend Bonus

For every person you can persuade to enrol with Action Online Casinos you will earn Ł12 / €12 / $20. The person referred must wager their initial deposit 12 times before the referral agent receives his bonus. He must then wager that bonus 30 times before it can be withdrawn.

Daily Promotions

Action Online Casinos have a number of daily promotions. These range from a Money Back Bonus where you receive 10% of your losses as a bonus, to a Re-Action bonus where all deposits receive an extra 10%. Check their site for updates.

Paddy Power Poker Bonuses

Paddy Power Poker is one part of the Paddy Power online gaming empire. They have a staggering number of poker rooms and tournaments for players to choose from. Although, as with many other online poker web sites, the emphasis is on Texas Holdem there are a number of other poker variants on offer including Omaha, Seven Card Stud and Badugi. Paddy Power Poker also hosts some of the biggest poker tournaments in the UK including the €2 million Irish Open.

Sign Up Bonuses

One reason Paddy Power Poker gets a particular mention is because of their unconventional signup bonus schemes. The whole scheme revolves around Paddy Power Points, which are earned as you play. The larger the pot, the more points are available and the points are distributed to all players who participated in the pot on a pro-rata basis. In other words, the more money you put into the pot, the more points you earn, regardless of who won the pot.

In other words the number of points players are awarded are equivalent to the rake the house takes. It appears that a $1 rake is the equivalent of 100 points.

When you sign up with Paddy Power Poker you can choose between four different bonuses. You can pick a $500, a $101, a $50 or a $20 bonus. Why would anyone pick the $20 bonus when they could have $500 instead you might ask. Unlike other online casinos and poker sites where your initial deposit is multiplied but you have to wager a certain amount before you can withdraw, Paddy Power makes you earn your bonus. Each of the $500, $101, $50 and $20 bonuses comes with a points cost and you have to rack up the specified number of points before you get your bonus. You don’t see anything of your bonus until you have played for a while, but on the plus side you don’t have to wager it before you can withdraw.

After you have accumulated enough points to receive your bonus you still earn points which can be used to enter special tournaments or exchanged for prizes. When I visited the site the prizes ranged from Paddy Power branded t-shirts and playing cards to an X-Box 360.

Refer a Friend Bonus

Like many sites, Paddy Power Poker offers a bonus for every person you can convince to sign up. The bonus is $50 per person up to a maximum of $250 per month. For the referrer to receive the bonus the referred person must have earned 2500 points within three months of signing up.

Hold’em Pirate Poker Calculator and the Use of the VPIP Meter

Thursday, March 23rd, 2006

The nifty, quick glance, VPIP meter that is part of the Hold’em Pirate Poker Calculator software gives you a snapshot image that is designed to increase your probability of making money.

This is simply my favorite empirical poker calculator (EPC) because the VPIP meter acts as an analyst of all the pertinent data, and thus, improves your decision making skills. With little doubt, you will now know if you are at the right table, in the right hand, and up against the right player. Simply, it is a guide as to how to win at poker.

Being at the right table is your first critical decision in winning at hold’em poker. The VPIP meter is really effective in that process because you could sit at a table, and simply watch for a couple rounds while the VPIP goes to work. Depending on your own playing style, you may prefer a loose/passive table as opposed to a tight/aggressive make-up. Either way, you are going to know in short order while only involved in only a couple of blinds.

The VPIP meter monitors individual activities and collates that into a table “tempo”. In that regard, you are going to have a lot of valuable information before trying to play a hand like KQos in early position or even calling the small blind with a lousy Q2s. Conversely, the VPIP meter may be offering up scenarios to not only play those exact hands, but play them aggressively! It’s important to play out of your “zone” for image strategy and this tool really helps you do it.

The individual statistics can show what type of player you are up against as well. If you see that RobRoyBoy99 has seen 60% of the flops, has a pre-flop raise of 40%, but has won a mere 12% of his showdowns, well you want him at the table. Any decent holding (middle pair) is going to take this opponent down, if not sooner than later. You want to be part of that before someone else does, so re-raising the fool is a good option to try for heads-up play.

I really love the fact that the VPIP meter can collect data for me while I am pouring my tea in the kitchen, putting the dog outside, or saying good night to my wife. As opposed to most other EPCs, the VPIP meter is a quick study, with the visual impact you want in demanding, time-sensitive hand situations.

Ain’t no sucker like Jim Duquette

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2006

Now that Scott Kazmir is off to a great start at 5-2 with a 2.94 ERA and Victor Zambrano has just undergone season-ending surgery, it might be a good time to review how Jim Duquette, the Mets GM at the time, broke every single rule of gambling.

NEVER BET MORE THAN YOU CAN AFFORD

When the Mets traded Scott Kazmir, their farm system was almost completely bare. The only true blue-chip pitching prospects at the time were Phil Humber, who has since undergone Tommy John surgery, and Alay Soler, a Cuban defector who just made it to the U.S. this season and is currently pitching at AA. This year the Mets are throwing out such retreads as Jose Lima and Jeremi Gonzalez as they wait for Mike Pelfrey and the next wave of prospects to be ready. Do you think they would rather have sent out Jose Lima - or Scott Kazmir, to try and sweep their arch-rival Braves last week?

NEVER BET WHILE INTOXICATED

Right around the time of the trade in 2004, the Mets had just swept their cross-town rivals, the New York Yankees, in an exciting three-game series. The Mets, who had been dead in this town since 2000, finally had some juice. They were close to first place and back on the back page. Of course, they still had a .500 record and not much talent. But Duquette, drunk on the city’s enthusiasm, wanted to “win now” no matter what the future cost.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK

You wouldn’t bet on a Falcons game without checking if Michael Vick was hurt, would you? Yet Mr. Duquette failed to adequately check into Victor Zambrano’s injury before the trade. Zambrano admitted he has been hurt the entire time he has been a member of the New York Mets. The week the trade was made, Zambrano skipped a start because of arm stiffness. Shouldn’t some alarms have gone off? Duquette blamed Tampa doctors for downplaying the injury, but you don’t need to be able to read medical charts to know something might be amiss.

LOOK FOR VALUE

Barbaro, who was such a good bet on Derby Day, might not be such a great bet for the Preakness. You won’t get enough in return. A lefty who throws 97 MPH has more value than a barely over .500 pitcher with control problems. Had Mr. Duquette waited until the off-season, he might have received Tim Hudson or Mark Mulder in return.

KNOW WHEN TO WALK AWAY

This is the one Mr. Duquette clearly missed. Tampa officials were said to be laughing to themselves when they realized what they were getting. Mr. Duquette should clearly have just walked away.

Next time you’re in Baltimore and you’re looking for someone to round out your poker game, look up Mr. Jim Duquette because there ain’t no sucker like the one who doesn’t know the rules.
